LIFE THROUGH THE EYES OF CAPTAIN KOÇ

LIFE THROUGH THE EYES OF CAPTAIN KOÇ

KOÇ GROUP

We wanted to mark the 65th anniversary of Rahmi Koç’s career with a special gift. The result was a comic book inspired by his life philosophy, enriched by his memories. What sets Captain Koç apart from traditional corporate publications is that it doesn’t just tell a story—it allows readers to experience it over and over again.

The 38th Koç Group Senior Managers Meeting featured not only important milestones but also exciting ideas and celebrations. Among the most memorable moments was the presentation of Captain Koç—a book we worked on for nearly four months—to Rahmi M. Koç, commemorating his 65 years with the Koç Group, alongside Samahat Arsel’s 60th anniversary.

Blending Rahmi M. Koç’s life philosophy with his deep passion for the sea, the book was conceptualized, written, and scripted by Kayhan Yavuz, illustrated by Ergün Gündüz—one of Turkey’s leading comic artists—and designed in the graphic novel style. Flashback sections were illustrated in unique styles by ZT Studio, Necmi Yalçın, Şahin Erkoçak, and Sefa Sofuoğlu, each adding their own creative flair.

The story begins with a fictional character, William Warren Winsworth, being rescued from a deserted island by Rahmi Koç. Told from Winsworth’s perspective—himself a writer and illustrator—the narrative unfolds aboard the yacht Nazenin. Though unfamiliar with Rahmi Koç at first, Winsworth gradually comes to know him through the stories shared by the crew. When he returns to London, he decides to express his gratitude by creating a graphic novel titled Captain Koç. While the characters, timeline, and plot are fictional, all the anecdotes shared on board are true stories—real experiences from Rahmi Koç’s life. As you read, you’ll find yourself surprised by the depth of his passion for the sea and gain an intimate understanding of a life philosophy shaped by it.

The book’s presentation at the Koç Group Senior Managers Meeting was also accompanied by a special artistic performance. Guests were treated to a theatrical adaptation of the story, directed by Serdar Biliş, with Mert Fırat portraying Rahmi Koç.

On this occasion, we once again thank Rahmi Koç and wish him many more fulfilling years ahead.
