We wanted to crown the 65th anniversary of Rahmi Koç's career with a special gift. The result was a graphic novel nourished by his philosophy of life, enlivened by his memories and drawn by Ergün Gündüz. “Captain Koç” does not only tells the story, but also makes the readers relive it every time.
The Koç Group Senior Managers meeting, held for the 38th time, witnessed many exciting ideas as well as important celebrations. Rahmi M. Koç's 65th Anniversary in the Koç Group was celebrated together with Samahat Arsel's 60th Anniversary. One of the most striking moments of the event was the moment when the book we prepared with approximately four months of work and called "Captain Koç" was presented to Rahmi Koç.
Rahmi M. Koç's philosophy of life is discussed intertwined with his passion for the sea in the book, whose concept, scenario and dialogues belong to Kayhan Yavuz, and drawn by Ergün Gündüz, one of Turkey's leading illustrators, and prepared in a graphic novel style. ZT Studio, Necmi Yalçın, Şahin Erkoçak and Sefa Sofuoğlu contribute to the sections of the book where flashbacks are experienced with their unique drawing styles.
In the book, which begins with the rescue of a fictional character named William Warre Winsworth from a deserted island by Rahmi Koç, the events are presented through the eyes of Winsworth, who is also a writer and illustrator. In this timeless narrative, Winsworth has the opportunity to get to know Rahmi Koç, whom he had never heard of before, thanks to the events he witnessed on Nazenin and the stories he heard from the crew. When he returns home to London, he hopes to repay his debt of gratitude to Rahmi Koç by preparing a graphic novel called Kaptan Koç. Although the time structure, plot and crew profiles in the book are completely fictitious, all the anecdotes Winsworth listens to on the boat are real and events that Rahmi Koç personally experienced. When you read the book, you are surprised by the power of Rahmi Koç's passion for the sea, and you have the opportunity to understand from the inside his philosophy of life, inspired by the sea.
The presentation of the book at the Koç Group Senior Managers meeting also witnessed a different artistic work. Guests had the opportunity to watch a performance staged by Serdar Biliş, based on the script of the book, in which Mert Fırat played Rahmi Koç.
